When you live in Pourland–and it’s been 42 years for me–the coming of Spring is a major event. Here, you start to see little purple flowers push their way through the soil and decorate the front lawn. You see pudgy people trying to walk off winter’s pounds–and gloom. For maybe the first time in my years here, I was affected by the gray of winter . . . but I kept my eyes on the prize, my beloved baseball.
Both the return of Spring and the return of Baseball are the old reliables. Two events that were here before me and will be here long after I’m gone. Here’s to both!
This video by Carl Aldana captures all that is splendid about baseball now and baseball then. (Music: Glenn Miller “Little Brown Jug”)
